Questions
Questions people ask before a first visit
Which provider should I see first?
If you aren't sure, call the front desk. We ask what you're hoping for, suggest a provider and book the first visit. If it turns out to be the wrong fit, we help you switch to someone else here at no extra step for you.
Can I see more than one provider on the same day?
Often, yes. The front desk can book visits back to back, with a short break in between. Each visit is its own appointment with its own estimate.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel a brief pinch or a dull ache at some needles, and many feel nothing at others. Tell your acupuncturist if anything is uncomfortable, and they will adjust or stop.
Are the needles clean?
Acupuncture needles are sterile, thin and used once, then discarded in a sharps container. Your acupuncturist opens them in front of you.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on you and on what you are coming in for. Your provider suggests a plan at the first visit, and it is always a plan we make together, never a promise. You can stop whenever you like.
Do you take insurance?
We are out of network, so we don't bill health plans directly. We give you an itemized receipt after every visit that you can send to your plan. HSA and FSA cards can often be used: ask your plan administrator. See how fees work for the details.
Is acupuncture OK during pregnancy?
Tell us if you are or might be pregnant before any visit. Some points and techniques are avoided, and we may suggest you check with your prenatal provider first.
Will I have to stop my medicine?
No. Tell us about everything you take, including supplements, and tell your prescriber that you are seeing us.
What should I wear and eat before a visit?
Wear comfortable clothes with sleeves and legs that roll up. Have a light meal an hour or two beforehand, rather than coming on an empty stomach or after a heavy meal.
When should I see a doctor instead?
For chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or a sudden severe headache, call 911. For anything new, worsening or worrying, see your doctor first. Our providers will tell you when something belongs with your doctor.
Still have a question?
Call or message the front desk. We are glad to help.
